Green Michigan, a 501c(4) organization, was founded
by former Congressman David Bonior to promote
awareness and discussion of environmental issues.
Green Michigan is committed to stopping Canadian
trash from filling our landfills; educating our citizens
about recycling; preventing the diversion of Great
Lakes waters; making our roadways free of litter; and
planting trees to improve air quality, reduce noise
pollution and raise our property values.
Planting Trees  A terrible ice storm in 1976
marked the beginning of David Bonior's efforts to
rebuild, replant, and "re-green" Michigan.  Thirty
years later, more than 1 million trees have been
distibuted across the state.  As chairman of Green
Michigan, David Bonior will continue the tradition
that he and a handful of volunteers once started.
Area coordinators are organizing volunteers in
your community.  It's a great way to give your time
volunteering to help improve air quality, reduce
noise pollution, and raise our property values.
Cleaning Up Litter On Our Roadways
The roads and ditches in our communities
are covered with litter.  Green Michigan is
committed to cleaning up our roadsides.
Area coordinators are adopting roads,
and organizing Clean Up Days for
volunteers to pitch in and clean up the
litter.
